5 Ways To Spice Up Your Valentine’s Day, The Italian Way!

Red roses, candlelit dinners and boxes of chocolates are all popular ways of celebrating Valentine’s Day with the one you love – and rightly so. Who doesn’t enjoy beautiful flowers and tasty food?

But at Europa, known as one of the best Italian Restaurants in Bristol, we’re already experts at creating the perfect romantic meal, so our thoughts have turned to alternative ways to spice up your Valentine’s Day, the Italian way!

Here are our top five suggestions…

1. Write a love letter

Channel your inner Italian poet and put pen to paper to write something beautiful for your other half. For inspiration, check out the work of Italian greats Giacomo Casanova and Francesco Petrarca. Your loved one won’t be able to resist your charms after such a romantic gesture!

2. Watch a movie set in Italy

If modern romcoms aren’t your thing, why not cuddle up to one of the classic Italian movies such as Il Postino (The Postman) or Life is Beautiful)? It’s the perfect way to end your evening, after enjoying a delicious Valentine’s menu at one of the best Italian restaurants Bristol, Europa, of course.

3. Create a love lock

In recent years, it’s become popular in Italy to mark Valentine’s Day or ‘La Festa Degli Innamorati’ by attaching a padlock or ‘lucchetti’ inscribed with your initials to a bridge or lamppost – and throwing away the key. Why not adapt the tradition and attach a lock to a tree in your garden so it’s there as a constant reminder of your love?

4. Push the boat out… literally!

If your budget permits, what could be more romantic than cruising down the Grand Canal of Venice while being serenaded by a traditional gondolier. It’s the ideal way to see the ancient city, while sipping prosecco and holding hands. Once your cruise is finished, enjoy some traditional Italian cuisine in Piazza San Marco. If you can’t jet off to Venice, though, you can still enjoy the cuisine by booking in at Europa, famous for being one of the top Italian restaurants in Bristol.

5. Learn the language of love

Impress your sweetheart by whispering sweet nothings in the language of love – Italian! Stuck for ideas? Try ‘ti amo’ which means ‘I love you’, ‘tesoro mio’ which means ‘my darling’ or ‘Sei la mia vita’ which translates as ’you are my life’. Or, if you really want to make it a Valentine’s to remember, go for ‘Mi vuoi sposare?’, which means ‘will you marry me?’ in Italian. And you cancount on us to be ready and waiting with a bottle of prosecco when she says ‘yes’!

We hope that’s helped fire up your imagination with ways to spice up your Valentine’s Day this year. Don’t forget, if you’re looking for Italian restaurants in Bristol to celebrate with your loved one on February 14, get in touch to book a table.
